Marko Nastic’s Biography :

Welcome to the world of Marko Nastic, the leading South Eastern European DJ. In a troubled
Serbia of the 90’s, Marko and his buddies built one of the most vibrant club scenes in Eastern
Europe, the one that inspired writers of Mixmag, The Face, DJ and NME to write accolades many
moons ago. They resisted dark forces of political madness with electronic music and a
celebration of life.
DJing and music were always part of Marko Nastic’s background: even in his pre-teen years he
was fascinated with synthesizers, drum machines and other sound making gadgets. When
techno started filtering through to Serbia in the early 90’s, Marko eagerly entered the scene.
Soon word on a teenage techno prodigy started spreading around town and this energy
channeled into a young & aspiring DJ team called Teenage Techno Punks – all of whom were
under 18, but performing like they were born on the 1210s. Nastic was the leader of the pack;
soon to become the hottest talent of South Eastern Europe’s electronic scene. The queues to
enter clubs in the region on the nights they performed were longer than ever. The word soon
started to spread beyond the boundaries of Serbia.
Just as techno music was becoming popular in Serbia, the Balkan conflict escalated. Marko
admits that he was too young to fully realize the gravity of the situation, but it did have an
impact on his life. “Things were tense, but a lot of it luckily went over my head,” he admits. “It
also meant that buying records then was very difficult and the choice was poor”.
These circumstances shaped and strengthened Marko just like other kids there. The free parties
they threw during those times are still an urban legend in Belgrade.
After the war, the club scenes in neighboring countries became aware of Nastic’s unparalleled
DJing skills and his distinctive three-deck style. Marko has since matured into a DJ who cannot
be labeled as purely techno, house or minimal; he’s all of that, and more.
Marko was a member of the original Recycled Loops crew. After that label stopped, Marko
joined Valentino’s ‘Jesus Loved You’ and started three labels himself, Recon Warriors, which put
Marko on the charts, followed by Recon Light and Traffica.
Also Marko has loads of projects running. For example Space Explorers with Marko Milosaljevic,
Tango and Cash with Kobaya and don’t forget the projects with Dejan Milicevic.
Marko did his first non-European tour in 2002, which started in Brazil. Now he regularly plays
gigs all over the world. Since 2006 he is the author and host of the radio show “Music For Body
And Soul” on the leading Serbian radio station B92.
His authorial album is due to be released.

M.U.M Proudly Presents "Miami Sessions with Alex Bau"-M.U.M Episode 87
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

What's your credo?

Where are not many dj's of this type - dj's who believed in techno from the first minute, dj's who have experienced techno from the very beginning, dj's who have made techno their own thing, dj's who have created their own unique styles or even more - who have developed one over the years and who's name's are synonymous with that specific sound. alex bau is one of those dj's. at the same time, however, there are some slight differences with this guy. why focus on just one style of music? why only minimal sounds? why only techno? why, if you could have a well orchestrated combination of both?

Is it related to the fact that for alex bau, there was once a time before techno? with thousands of records in a collection that spans through many different types, styles and genres of music, certainly there have been many individual records which have left their own, indelible marks. there's no doubt about that! for instance, alex still does depeche mode nights from time to time, just for fun. but his activities with techno don't suffer at all from that, not in the least! with his 5+ hour sets at his first resident club in his southeast bavarian home area, the "libella", where dj hell also started his career back in the 80's, he achieved the reputation as someone who was totally aware of what he was doing, totally dedicated to it, but also someone who was totally infatuated with it. he hosted his own radio show for over 2 years on a local radio station, still the only techno show in the area. however, after countless gigs at the local clubs the time was deemed to be right to prove that he was also able to play at other venues around the globe. while collaborating with his friend sven dedek, whose productions were mainly released under the moniker's "basic implant" or "electric envoy" on labels lsuch as "fine audio recordings" from chris liebing, their tracks hit the technofloors in a very impressive way. during that time he was also able to collect international experiences behind the decks as sven played live. releases like the "phase edit ep", a highly acclaimed and well sold rework of some nitzer ebb ebm classics, or their work for dave angel's "rotation", justin berkovi's "predicaments" or pascal feos' "pv-records" enabled them to reach a much larger audience. finally, after numerous releases for different labels beside his own "toneman", alex released his debut-album "connected" in late 2004. "connected" immediately drew the attention of many high class dj's such as chris liebing, pascal feos and good groove, just to name a few. the fact that these artists, all of whom were working with different styles, grabbed the tracks from "connected", shows that the name of the album couldn't have been chosen any better.

After starting his own label (toneman) back in 2000, alex also started to work on his solo productions for labels such as chris liebing's "clr" or the montreal based label, "default recordings". montreal can be seen as kind of a gauge of alex's dj activities! within 3 years he was booked in montreal four times and his set from the legendary night at aria from january 2006 was even released as a mix-cd, "live at aria / montreal" so that alex came back months later to perform for the release party, once again a night to remember for the montreal techno movement. at this point in time alex was already booked as the headliner and it was reported by numerous emails and guest book entries that it was hardly a mistake to do so

but it's not only montreal where alex is being booked again and again; there are many other places, which is a good indicator that he seems to be a guy who understands what to do when standing in front of a crowd, someone who is always trying to bring the party to the max. clubs like frankfurt's "u60311", munich's "electric delicate", würzburg's "airport", or the legendary "tresor" in berlin are not only the trademarks of german techno club-culture, they can also be found on alex's gig list. brazil, usa, canada, poland, croatia, serbia, holland or the closer austria and switzerland are some of the tour stops on alex's calender, and no matter where, all over the places people can hear and feel how interesting, versatile and powerful techno can be if you understand how to combine minimal and straight techno as a constant up and down. everything is completely under control while the party is going wild, and that is what alex always goes for.

The fact that alex has become an official artist on the highly acclaimed label "zenit", that he has been the platform for acts like marco carola, adam beyer, the advent, gaetano parisio and many more, is the logical consequence of years of dedicated, hard work in good, high quality techno. techno in its purest form, just as described above, is the goal for alex - whether or not it involves playing or producing. on his current album "credo", minimal tunes go together with peaktime slammers in a way that appears obvious and logical. techno can do a lot, if you let it do so. that's the credo - his credo!

Special Thanks to Alex Bau...

M.U.M & 1605 Sessions Presents "Miami Sessions with Umek"-M.U.M Episode 86
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

DJ UMEK

Uroš Umek is internationally acclaimed music producer from Slovenia, seducing the masses with his own music blend for more than a decade. Always on the look for new sounds and determined to challenge every existing cliché in music industry, he managed to define his own vision of vanguard techno. Sure, this would not happen without the support of his loyal peers who’ve joined him on the production platforms such as Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco, with which they defined “Slovenian techno sound and successfully invested it as an important driving force on the global club scene.

The year 2007 marked the beginning of new chapter in Umek’s music career. After spending enormous amount of time and artistic energy bringing his characteristics sound to the whole new level, he presented new international music therapy called 1605 – Sixteenofive. No doubt this was a very risky move for such an established artist as DJ Umek. But it was the only way for him to stay on top of the game. And it seems he picked up the right decision at the crucial time: the response to his new vision of electronic dance music from his peers, critics, media and most importantly his fans is great and his productions are supported by some top dogs in the industry.

Umek recent productions include highly acclaimed club releases such as Overtake & Command, Ricochet Effect, Another Matter Entirely and Faithful Nights, but it were MTV supported hit singles Posing as Me and Carbon Occasions that stirred the most media attention and crossed over to the daily radio stations. Umek’s releases were lately included on the premiere club compilations mixed by artists such as Sander Kleinenberg, Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, John Digweed, M.I.K.E. or Carl Cox. He was amongst the headliners of esteemed summer music festivals such as Primavera, Monegros or Dance Valley and he conquered the South America on the joint tour with Valentino Kanzyani and Marko Nastić once more. And this was only the introduction in the Umek’s year 2008, when he plans to finally present long expected new artist album and his own live band.

M.U.M & FLOW:MNGMNT Presents "Miami Sessions with Ian F"-M.U.M Episode 85
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

IAN F.
(Jesus Loved You)

After a decade of successful sound blending Ian F. maintains the status of one of the most fresh-sounding deejays around. Being introduced to the art of music improvisation at an early age and heavily indulging on alternative art as a teenager, he continued to nurse this passion even more after becoming a deejay. Ian F is a member of the Jesus Loved You family, co-founder of Flow Management agency and a long time resident deejay of Ambasadi Gavioli, one of the hottest super clubs in the Mediterranean. He forefronts the new generation of promising young artists that are redefining famous Slovenian techno sound and are heavily supported by artists such as Umek and Valentino Kanzyani. Currently Ian F. spends most of the off-deck time producing music and developing his Flux:ology, which combines elements of different art expressions. After a series of releases and remixes on selected labels in Europe, Asia and USA (Jesus Loved You, Advanced, Pure Substance, Traffica, Mashtronic, Decoded, Vezotonik, Dig:Atel …), he’s dedicated to spread his eclectic art of noise even further in the forthcoming months.
His production was supported by artists such Umek, Valentino Kanzyani, James Zabiela, Anthony Pappa, Armin Van Buuren, D Ramirez, Misjah, Wally Lopez, Flash Brothers, Andy Moor, Andrea Ferlin, Nick Muir, Wehbba, Marko Nastic,  …

= = = = = = = = = =

CHALLENGES: Productions. Live Act. New expressions.
Being obsessed with searching for some fresh stuff all the time, the life of producer is a constant battle for Ian F: “Currently I spend most of the off-deck time developing my own sound under the guidance of my studio guru Tomy DeClerque." Ian F’s recent production Subconscious was picked up by local Apple distributor for a TV commercial and can be heard on the MTV. Some other releases on Tested/Agent Funk, Mashtronic rec., Jesus Loved You (Valentino Kanzyani) and Traffica (Marko Nastić) are scheduled and the preliminary arrangements with some UK and Germany based labels were already struck. “Another intriguing project is Flux, for which I am joining forces with Tomy DeClerque, KayKay and Dave Morgan. Flux is a unique live act, a mixture of live music performance and electronic live act with the addition of other art expressions. It’s very alive. The structure and expression of this project varies all the time as it is under constant development. We’ve already performed in Gavioli and at one open-air party, but a lot of work still has to be put into this project.”

Performing at the parties is just one side of Ian F as a musician. He indulges on combining his passion for music with other art expressions on regular basis. He's no stranger to performing at art and fashion exhibitions, poetry recitals, teaming up with pop artists and rock bands or developing soundtrack for an on-line art gallery. He even produced music and performed with a contemporary dance company at selected venues, including premiere at the 7th Annual Gala at the national theatre, which was broadcasted live on the Slovenian national television.

Ian F is established artist in the region, performing in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina on the regular basis. His poison is techno & tech-house with expressive warm harmonies and little touches of other genres. As a long running resident of some of the top clubs and events in the north Adriatic region he already performed alongside most of the top techno artists as well as the biggest names in the industry such as Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Sven Väth, Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Derrick May, Tiësto, Steve Lawler, Sasha, John Digweed if we name just a few. He's a resident deejay of Ambasada Gavioli, Fetch the Vibe events and official ambassador of Slovenian Haineken Music events.

Ian F's productions were so far spun and included on track lists and charts by Anthony Pappa, Armin Van Buuren, Flash Brothers, Andy Moor, Marko Nastić, Umek, Valentino Kanzyani and other established deejays. His artist production and remixes were released on Slovenian labels such as F-Recordings, Annunaki, Vezotonik and Vezotonik LTD, Malaysia based Pure Substance and Red Flux Music, Atel - DigAtel (USA), Mashtronic rec. from Germany, Advanced rec. (UK) and Croatian Decoded and Decoded Mini.

As a member of SDJF initiative Ian helps develop local club infrastructure and platforms to support young artists on their first steps. Another two promising young artists Andrew Technique and F.Sonik are members of Flow Management agency. Currently he’s also spending a lot of time in and out of the studio with a deejay & producer Aneuria.

M.U.M & Fade Records Presents "Miami Sessions with"Chris Fortier"-M.U.M Episode 84
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

While many people may claim to know Chris’ sound, with their focus on continually labeling him one thing or another, Chris is equally as focused on his efforts to push back the musical boundaries. It is testament to the man that he continues to develop his sound and musical direction, after all, as the man says himself “I just like to play good underground music, I don’t limit myself.”

It is artists such as Chris Fortier who are inextricably linked to the underground dance music scene that are the genuinely pushing the sound forward. Chris’ determination to continue to push the envelope can be seen in all aspects of his career. Proof of this can be found on his recent triple CD compilation Balance and his recent solo production under the 40oz moniker and his stellar debut artist album As Long As The Moment Exits.

The Balance CD genuinely offers something exciting and underground to the current stale compilation market. Boasting tracks from across the musical spectrum like David Gilmore Girls, Global Communication and Floppy Sounds through to Slam, Matthew Jonson, Rabbit in the Moon and Bent. It is little wonder the CD was name checked for compilation of the year by numerous international press publications.

Under his 40oz production guise Chris has released the several EPs that musically could fit comfortably on labels such as Cocoon, Kompakt or Get Physical. Further remixes of Alexi Delano, Joshua Collins, Lee Burridge, Freaky Chakra and John Selway show Chris’ genre defying sound at it’s underground best. Taking this a step further in 2007, his debut artist album was released to countless plaudits and impeccable praise. Not satisfied with status quo, look for the boundaries to continue to be pressed and pushed with each coming musical excursion.

With a DJ career spanning 15 plus years, he has continually been a crowd favourite, confirmed by his very first residency at the legendary “Aahz” in Orlando through to more recent residencies at The Cross in London and at Twilo in New York. Since a debut European tour in 1997, Chris has gone on to consistently tour the globe behind numerous singles, remixes and no less than 9 mix albums. You can catch him as easily in Tokyo as in Buenos Aires and all points in between on any given weekend.

To those that know Fortier’s history, they know to expect plenty more to come, for those that are just getting initiated, Welcome!

About Fade Records:

Fade Records was created out of necessity in 1993. At the helm is American DJ Chris Fortier. Chris and studio partner, Neil Kolo, needed an outlet to release the tracks they were producing together. With not many options in the States, it seemed obvious to start a label and create the opportunities themselves. The first release was in 1994 called "...For All the People". This track gave them a voice and platform for the future productions. The next three tracks, "All I Got", "Separation" and "So Good" were more highly praised and received heavy support from the biggest DJs out there, including Sasha, John Digweed and Dave Seaman. Equal support came from the USA from Kimball Collins, DJ Icey and John Debo as well as the brand new Mixmag USA (which eventually would be known as Mixer). This great support put the duo on the map and started every label in the UK demanding their talents for remix duties. After several years of building their profile through remixes and the odd single, Chris wanted to re-launch the label in the hopes to help discover and cultivate new talent from America. Steve Porter was the man for this job as Chris discovered him at age 17. With the productions of Steve Porter and others like Derek Howell, Royal Sapien, Funk Harmony Park & Tonepushers, the label is as strong as ever and having great success worldwide.
