HEARTTHROB Biography

Currently one of the brightest stars in the Minus firmament, Heartthrob aka Jesse Siminski
has arrived on the scene with a fresh new take on the minimal sound. It’s not just his ear for a
killer riff that makes him such an exciting prospect it’s also his natural ability to convey a sense of
drama and humour through his music. There’s an infectious energy in his sound that rubs off on
his audiences but it can also be heard in his musical collaborations. Heartthrob brings something
new to the table - be it quirky melodic hooks or twisted vocals - that manages to inspire those
around him to even greater heights.

Growing up in the remote and rural town of Marquette, Michigan, situated about 6 hours North of
Detroit, music was a vital part of his upbringing. Dad played guitar in a number of bands that
regularly practiced at their house and this healthy diet of rock, funk and reggae together with his
older sister‘s obsession with Prince, shaped his appreciation of dance music from an early age.
Erotic City, Laid Back’s ‘White Horse’ and Kraftwerk‘s ‘Tour de France’ are still huge influences
from that time. Jesse discovered techno music around 1996 through a magazine called
‘Massive’ that covered the new rave culture exploding in the Midwest. Plastikman’s ‘Gak’ was
one track in particular that opened his eyes and motivated him to visit his first Rave. Needless to
say, he was totally hooked!  He immediately bought turntables and started looking for
synthesizers to make music, starting out with some retro 70’s gear handed down from his father.

Next to studying art and painting, music rapidly became his true passion although it was never
something he seriously considered as a career option. All that was to change when he hooked
up with Magda in New York in 1999 and was immediately taken by her warm nature and
fantastic musical sense. She and Troy Pierce had started working on music and introduced
him to Ableton Live. Shortly after, Richie Hawtin moved into the same building as them, it was
a very natural situation during which this dedicated band of producers and djs began laying
foundations for the future. Since then the learning curve has been steep. Jesse swapped New
York for Paris in 2005 to focus his full attention on production and performance and by his own
admission it’s been an incredible experience. Being invited to use Richie Hawtin’s studio and
remixing Depeche Mode’s  ‘Personal Jesus’ are two major moments that particularly stand
out for him since arriving in Europe however ‘Baby Kate’, the memorable opening to 2006’s
min2MAX compilation is the track that has come to define his sound.

Heartthrob describes his approach to music as “a messy ‘stream of consciousness’ daydream”.
The challenge for him is to make something unique and personal that speaks for itself, regardless
of whether it stays true to form or not. The traditional functionality of Techno music must always
be present but for Jesse it’s all about taking risks and trusting his instincts, which is why his own
particular style is so varied, covering a whole lot more than just glitches, bleeps and sound
effects.

Melody plays a significant roll in his work, often providing the focal point around which the rest of
the track orbits. There is also an inherent darkness to his music but just as it’s always darkest
before the dawn, there’s often an uplifting, cathartic side to it that celebrates the unified spirit and
generates such a positive vibe on the dancefloor. Music also allows him to document his
experiences and with the cast of characters that surround him, inspiration is never far away.
With tongue firmly fixed in cheek, he often creates fantasy personas that get documented
through vocals or song titles, like a secret tribute and with such an impressive collection of
releases and remixes already to his name (both as Heartthrob and alter ego Vivienne
Projects), it can only be a matter of time before the tributes start flowing back the other way.

TROY PIERCE Biography

Growing up in the quiet farm town of Muncie, Indiana four hours drive from Chicago and
Detroit, it was hard to ignore the rich sounds emanating from these House and Techno
strongholds. Troy was among the first to pick up on DJs like Derrick Carter, Jeff Mills
and Richie Hawtin and was always out and about at parties in Detroit, Ohio and across
the Midwest. Strangely enough though, he never thought about picking up a pair of
headphones himself, preferring to leave the DJ duties to his friends. This way he could
fully immerse himself in the music, especially the experimental ambient tones of the after
hour chill outs.

This all changed in 1994. He moved to New York to study photography and like every
student worth their salt, blew the remainder of his cash on a pair of turntables. He’d
been toying with the idea for a while and as luck would have it his flatmate was also the
manager of Temple Records so there was an endless supply of quality tunes on hand
from labels like Perlon to satisfy his growing vinyl addiction.

Troy eventually hooked up with Magda at the Detroit Music Festival in 2001, who in turn
introduced him to Mark Houle six months later. An immediate chemistry developed
between the three of them and although Magda was now in Berlin, Mark in Windsor
and Troy in New York they started swapping music files over the net. By the time the
Run Stop Restore project finally crystallised into their debut release in early 2003, Troy
had already moved to Berlin. It was a big decision to leave but somehow New York no
longer offered up-and-coming musicians the same freedom of expression it used to,
while Germany and Berlin in particular was setting new standards in minimal electronic
music production.

Since touching down in December 2002, he’s been letting his music do the talking. As
a relative unknown, it’s never easy staking a claim in a new city, especially one with
such a rich musical heritage but sure enough, through a string of successful gigs and a
mixture of impressive releases on Minus (Run and Slacknoise), Underline (Louderbach)
and Mo’s Ferry Productions, Troy has been attracting the right kind of attention and is
now a regular performer on the European circuit.

2005 was the year when it all came good. The release of the Minimise to Maximise
compilation and the accompanying tour left a lasting impression on clubbers at such
centres of excellence as Robert Johnson in Offenbach and the Paradiso in Amsterdam
but perhaps the real turning point came in August at pop.com. All those endless nights
on the road and solitary days in the studio came together in one heart stopping set at
the Watergate club. Taking the game to an expectant crowd including fellow producers
and industry types, his uncompromising mix of minimal house and down beat, funked
up techno announced, in no uncertain terms, that he was here for the long haul.
As a DJ, attempts to categorise his style pose more questions than they answer.
Minimalism in its purest form is a tag he more freely associates with labels like
Consumed - ‘super sparse, difficult and totally out there’. Troy on the other hand, has
developed a dance floor friendly hybrid sound that takes the best from the ‘little
movements and micro trends’ that constantly spring up, helping electronic music to
evolve. It retains the mechanical, futuristic sounds of techno but is slower and less
abrasive allowing him to work between the lines, exploit the space between the beats
and push out into the third dimension that epitomises the Minus sound.

Like his label mates, Troy is a strong advocate of cutting edge technology like Ableton
Live, Final Scratch and sample tools like Cyloop. The ability to shift between these
sound sources offers him unparalleled flexibility as a DJ but the benefits don’t just stop
there. He recalls road testing a new track one night in Berlin, getting the thumbs up
from the rest of crew but then receiving puzzled calls the next day because the track
didn’t sound quite the same – he was of course looping in samples ‘on the fly’ and it
was this spontaneous improvisation that really set the dancefloor alight. Needless to say
these overdubs found their way into the final mix.

From a production point of view his tracks normally derive from experimenting with his
Machine Drum or expanding outwards from the dark, atmospheric vocal elements that
play a pivotal role in many of his productions. Inspiration often comes through choice
regarding the effects he uses, rejecting standard, tried and tested settings in favour of
unique percussive elements designed to challenge and intrigue. The result is a montage
of scratchy subliminal textures and grinding beats. It’s edgy stuff driven by dark funky
bass riffs that get right under the skin, the perfect tonic for any after hour as sleep
deprivation starts playing tricks with the mind.

As it stands, 2006 promises to be an even busier year than 2005. Having provided the
backbone of their releases so far, Troy will wrap up his work for UK label Underline with
the eagerly anticipated Louderbach LP. Alongside this, his growing status as a remixer
(check out his version of Ellen Allien’s Your Body is My Body) will see him reworking the
likes of Lawrence and Donnacha Costello. There’s also another Run EP in the pipeline
but maybe the most interesting development is the conception of a new label - Items
and Things - together with Magda and Marc Houle which should take flight in the
spring.

If that’s not enough, there’s a full-on, five week Minus tour of the US on the horizon.
Richie, Magda, Marc and Troy will set off in May (complete with monster tour bus) for
what can only be described as a next generation magical mystery tour during which
they’ll take in 25 cities. They probably won’t be stopping in Muncie but it’s a sign of just
how much his stock has risen over the past couple of years and confirmation that a
solid work ethic, positive thinking and a total dedication to the cause always bears fruit
in the end.

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

PACO OSUNA was born in Barcelona. His passion for music started out
when he was very young, at the tender age of 14 he was part of a regular
crowd at Studio 54, where the most charismatic dj, Raul Orellana, was
spinning Acid House, marking Paco in the way of understanding djing.

In '94 Paco moved to Valencia where he had his first contact with the decks
as a hobby. In '95 Paco made his first dj set as a professional at the ACTV
club, where he gained a year residency. After that, he started playing in
many different clubs including Heaven and Universal.

In the meanwhile he worked in a record shop, where he got access to a
recording studio in which he produced three singles for the label Lucas
Records. In '99 he got a residency at Amnesia in Ibiza. There he had the
brilliant opportunity to be line up with the biggest djs and could learn the
different styles looking to build his own. Amnesia was also the place where
Paco got in touch with the person who most influenced his future as much
personally as professionally, Sven Väth, who soon discovered Paco to be
very talented and introduced him in his Cocoon Booking agency. Paco was
the frist Spanish dj to play for this prestigious agency.

In 2001 Paco decided to leave house music moving closer to Techno. From
then on Paco´s career has gotten better and better, leading him to the best
clubs and festivals in the world and giving him a 'seat' in the techno scene.

MIKE SHANNON BIOGRAPHY

It’s been 10 years since Mike Shannon started making a name for himself on the international techno
scene as a DJ, producer and label owner. Now, having relocated to Berlin from Valencia via Montreal in
2007 he’s about to crown his first decade of active service with Memory Tree, his third full length to date,
and his debut for another notable Canadian export - Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 Records. Over the years,
Mike has well proven that it’s not just his music that makes him such a valuable asset to the techno
community, it’s his total dedication to the cause. Whether finding him standing behind a record shop
counter or searching out new talent for his labels, it’s always been about bringing people together and
investing in the future of the scene.

Mike first got the vinyl bug at the tender age of 12, buying house and techno tunes at Play de Record in
Toronto and by 15 his turntable skills were already landing him gigs at local underground parties and clubs.
From then on, Mike’s musical world expanded rapidly thanks in no small part to Detroit’s influential WJLB
radio station which turned him on to U.R., Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson - influences that still play a big
role in his approach to music today. To satisfy his appetite for all things Techno, he was soon managing the
orders at Speed Records in his hometown of Kitchener, Ontario where he continued his education;
importing cutting edge sounds from across Europe.

Throughout that time, Mike was out DJing and clubbing from Detroit to Toronto, making connections and
building up a solid network of producers and artists, which led to the inevitable formation of his own label
Cynosure in 1999. A couple of years later, he teamed up with Jeff Milligan on the more experimental
Revolver Canada imprint. Both labels have since developed into highly respected and trusted sources,
subsequently raising the profile of Canada’s electronic music scene by providing then unknown producers
such as Akufen and Deadbeat an international platform to spread their distinctive sound throughout the
world. Beyond developing homegrown talent, both imprints continue to invite an inspired selection of
international artists including Pier Bucci, Monolake and Brett Johnson to name a few.

For Mike it’s always been a question of choosing uncompromising artists who possess a unique and original
voice - an attitude that also defines his own work whether recording as John Shananigans, The Sunaj
Assassins or under his own name. There’s a distinctive feel to his music that’s both dark and soulful, that
stays true to his roots while embracing the future and never fails to deliver a flurry of kick-ass, funk infected
beats easily proven by a volley of timeless singles over the years and two previous full lengths. Take 2001’s
Slight of Hand on Force Inc - an album that cemented his reputation as an up-and-coming Minimal Techno
producer and 2005’s Possible Conclusions to Stories That Never End - a collection of chilled-out
Electronica inspired by his musical odyssey throughout Chile in 2003.

Mike’s recent move to Berlin represents the fulfillment of another chapter in his musical career and with so
many influential Canadian producers having taken up residence in the German capital over the last few
years, it’s a chance to hook up with old friends again and start collaborating on new plans and ideas, just
like the old days. Then of course there’s the new album, the accompanying remix projects and the
immediate matter of fatherhood to make 2008 something of a milestone both professionally and personally.

M.U.M & Minus proudly presents "Miami Sessions with Barem"- M.U.M- Episode 52
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

Mauricio Barembuem (a.k.a. Barem) is a young emerging artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was a
music student and a guitar enthusiast since the age of 15. By the age of 19, Barem was fully dedicated to
creating electronic music shortly after a trip to Berlin. In 2003, he started djing and performing live sets of
minimal techno. Today, Barem's groovy minimal tracks are based around synthetic samples, analog
rhythmic elements and hypnotic basslines. Also integrating rhythmic nuances of his native argentinian
roots, Barem's work is singularly deep, tracky and heady with a timbral sensibility that is intermittently
harmonic. Meanwhile, his sound continues to evolve while he cleverly maintains his own unique style.

In 2006, Barem did extensive world touring throughout Europe, South America and North America. At the
year's end, he was ranked as the #4 "best newcomer" in Groove Magazine's annual reader's poll issue.
Now that Barem is a household name in the techno world, he will continue expanding his sound while
constantly djing and playing live around the world. For the present and future, Barem takes a step
forward by focusing his music productions to the only two families where he feels a strong connection,
MIinus and foundsound.

M.U.M & Minus proudly presents "Miami Sessions with Magda"- M.U.M- Episode 51

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

With the release of her solo STOP EP on Minus, Magda can finally afford to take stock of a
whirlwind few years that have seen the insatiable demand for her very special blend of house and
techno carry her the length and breadth of the globe.

November 2005 and Magda’s set is reaching its climax at London’s Fabric. One moment she’s
pounding the crowd with her very own 48 Hour Crack In Your Bass, the next the hairs on the
back of 500 necks simultaneously stand to attention as the moody chords from Strafe’s all time
classic Set It Off produce a collective gasp of appreciation from the dancefloor. She’s in the
zone, unphased by the raucous response she’s generating. Virtually hidden by the racks of fx
units and monitors surrounding her, she remains a picture of calmness, dictating the play with a
cool hand.

It’s easy to see why she’s one of the most exciting prospects to breakthrough in recent years.
Magda makes things happen. Always has done, always will do.

Currently residing in Berlin, a relative stone’s throw from her home town of Zywiec in Poland
considering the nomadic existence of her childhood, she seems to have finally found a city that
mirrors her own attitude to life - no restrictions and certainly no compromise. It’s a philosophy
that also flows through Magda’s music particularly during her after hour sets. The ability to guide
her audience through the dark recesses of contemporary minimalism before delivering them back
safely into the light means her name is never far from the lips of discerning clubbers and fellow
DJs alike.

Her family left Zywiec for Texas in 1984 when she was nine before finally settling in Detroit in
1986. All this traveling around from one starkly contrasting environment to another, taught her to
deal with new challenges and to adapt to new situations pretty quickly, lessons that have
subsequently helped her deal with the often hectic life of a touring DJ. Always the outsider, the
concept of ‘home’ was never as straightforward as it is for some. Sometimes though, home isn’t
a physical location, it’s a state of mind and when she first turned up at a warehouse party a
couple of blocks from where she’d grown up in the tough district of Hamtramck, she knew she’d
found it. This initial foray into the Detroit underground culminated in the mind-blowing experience
that was Spastik - Richie Hawtin’s first Plastikman PA. She was hooked.

Within a few months, armed with a cheap pair of belt drive turntables and an unquenchable thirst
for vinyl, she’d moved from one side of the shop counter to the other at the influential Record
Time store and had also persuaded the bar where she worked to put on a monthly techno night
with Claude Young and Daniel Bell. Her enthusiasm was totally infectious and they soon asked
her to warm up for them. In conversation it’s clear to see how much the lack of attitude and
unconditional support from Bell in particular has shaped Magda’s own way of doing things.

Then, inspired by her mother’s ‘dark and surreal’ art she decided to study Graphic Design in
New York state but soon realized music was the most natural medium for her self expression.
Nevertheless, this abstract influence can still be found in her music production, juxtaposing as
she does warm, thick swathes of sound with jagged little hi hat patterns, sometimes lazy,
sometimes clinical but always purposeful and expressive.
On returning to Detroit she met Richie Hawtin at one of the legendary Hot Box parties where a
mutual friend introduced her. It was the first of what turned out to be a couple of chaotic
encounters that eventually led to the invitation of a gig at Hawtin’s 13 Below night. It was there
she first met Marc Houle. Their off-beat humor quickly developed into an unshakeable
friendship and Magda was soon lodging with Marc in Windsor where their musical symbiosis
started laying the foundations for 2003’s Run Stop Restore project together with Troy
Pierce.

By this time she’d already cut her teeth on the main stage, regularly performing at the System
raves in Detroit and as part of the Women on Wax collective. Things don’t always go
according to plan though, and by 1999 Magda was pretty much fed up with the ‘scene politics’
that seemed directly at odds with the feelings she’d first encountered. She took a step back,
followed her heart and immersed herself in the minimal sounds scuttling out of Germany in
particular (i.e Brinkmann, Perlon, Kompakt). The resulting bootleg CD mix - Fact and Friction -
won her a new set of admirers and consolidated her growing relationship with Hawtin, opening
for him at the millennium celebration EPOK and also forming part of an enviable line up at the
Plus 8 ten year anniversary party From Our Minds To Yours. Since then she has become his
sole choice as opening DJ, accompanying him on both European and Stateside tours.

The new millennium brought a host of new digital technology with it, most notably Final Scratch
and when she wasn’t on the road she could be found wiling away the hours transferring Hawtin’s
vast record collection into the digital domain. At the time there were only about ten DJs using
Final Scratch and while others regarded it with suspicion, Magda was quick to see the potential,
re-editing her favorite tracks to further enhance the distinctive flavor of her sets. She shies away
slightly from the ubiquitous ‘minimal’ tag, citing Chicago Jack and Acid as equally significant
ingredients in her sound but whichever way you look at it, she is part of a movement that is
rapidly redefining electronic dance music as we know it. Turntables, laptops, samplers and efx
units now clutter her DJ booth as the wall between traditional DJing and ‘on the fly’ production
starts to crumble.

And so, the Minus train rumbles on, forging a relentless path through new, uncharted territory.
Magda however, remains refreshingly free from the burden of expectation. Genuinely surprised
by the trajectory her life has taken yet deeply aware of the responsibility she has to her growing
army of fans, she faces the future with the same wide-eyed, ‘devil may care’ attitude that has
always accompanied her from city to city, from airport to airport, from disco to disco. A lonely
existence? For some maybe but Magda knows more than most that home is where the heart is.

Berlin is a fickle friend, a city that throws up unlimited scope and unseen perils in equal
measures. A muse to some - spurring them on to new heights of creativity, a vampire’s kiss to
others - intoxicating at first, it eventually sucks them dry, leaving a hollow shell with nothing left
but dreams of what might have been. Luckily, Magda already had something of the night about
her when she arrived in 2003 and, liberated from the clutches of New York’s draconian attitude
to club culture, she took to the Berlin underground like a fish to water. The notorious Beatstreet
afterhour parties got the energy coursing through her veins once more and she immediately set
about reevaluating and redefining her relationship to the music.

An intense flurry of activity followed. Together with Troy Pierce and Marc Houle, Magda began
exploring new production possibilities, honing her turntable skills and extending her dj sets in
order to satisfy the insatiable appetites of Berlin’s club kids. The transition was by no means
straight forward, taking both time and dedication but the hybrid sound that emerged, drawing
inspiration from the twin towers of Berlin and Detroit, has gone on to capture the imagination of
clubbers the world over.

In this sense, last year’s mix compilation She’s a Dancing Machine represents the first
volume of her audio-biography and sums up the ambition that drives this diminutive figure behind
the decks. Somehow finding the time to throw down an epic 70 track, multi-layered excursion
between the 130 shows she clocked up in 2006 (never mind the afterhours) really cemented her
reputation, topping off a year that also saw her hold successful residencies at Robert Johnson
(Offenbach), Technique (Leeds) and Fuse (Brussels) plus numerous appearances at festivals
around the globe such as Lowlands, Sonar, The Detroit Music Festival and Mutek.

Yet despite reaching the enviable position of being able to choose her gigs, there is no room for
complacency. Shouldering the increasing weight of expectation she has come to expect the
unexpected, in fact adversity has often propelled her on to greater things. There’s also a sense of
duty to keep pushing the envelope and this year she’ll be expanding her set-up to incorporate
new technology in addition to the delay pedals and edits that already give her sets their
distinctive flavour. It’s a move that should blur the boundaries between studio production and live
performance even further and will no doubt help formulate ideas for her upcoming album which
promises to be another continuous exploration into deep, dark, minimal disco.

However before that there’s a string of remixes to enjoy for 2007 including Heartthrob’s Baby
Kate (Minus), Gotham Road by Ryan Crosson (Trapez) and Louderbach (Underline). It’s also
worth keeping an eye on Items and Things, the new label from Magda, Marc and Troy that’s
home to their more abstract, off the wall creations.

Someone once said‚ the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary. Well, Magda
has definitely put in the work although she’s happier leaving the definition of success to others.
The arrival is superfluous. Just like her late night musical excursions, it’s the journey that’s
important and with it the desire to maintain the high standards she sets and feed the creative
hunger within - if that’s also good enough for us, then so be it.

Miami Underground Movement Proudly presents " Gabriel Ben(Teggno-Tattoo Detectives) live @ Blue South Beach@ M.U.M- Episode 47

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

Gabriel Ben is part of the next generation of techno producers/djs. Gabriel has captivated crowds over the years with his dancefloor unique sound and his vibrant energy. Although GB has been involved in the music industry for well over 10 years, its been only the last several which has allowed him to shine through the ranks and earn him the utmost respect from industry heads. GB also teamed up in 2005 with Tacopimp to form the group "Tattoo Detectives". Together they also created the record label "TeggnO" which started in 2007.

Gabriel began his dj career in 1987 without a source of income, so thanks to his brother who dj'ed at the time, Gabriel was able to get his hands on some equipment. The rest is history! Influenced by a local dj at a skating rink, Gabriel visioned himself in the booth one day playing to a crowd and getting people to move their bodies. Gabriel's love for all music styles grew, especially as he grew older and started visiting nightclubs where house music became his staple. Local pioneering DJ's like Timmy Tee, EC LaRock, Joe Callari, Robbie Tronco, Josh Wink and King Britt all influenced Gabriel Ben early on.

Production has also gone hand in hand with DJ'ing. Gabriel Ben began making original productions in 2002. GB's unique blend of funky, house, electronic and techno elements all come together to create some floor pounding productions. Gabriel's first production Mere Thoughts back in 2002 was immediately noticed by industry professionals. The track was charted number 1 on Sonic Foundry's Amateur Producers site for nearly 3 weeks, which was visited by more than a thousand people daily. Also the track was selected runner-up in the DMC-Mixer Magazine, and Roxio's United States DJ search contest. Gabriel Ben has since worked on and developed a number of original productions and remixes, but it wasn't until 2005 when he caught his first big break.

In 2005, Gabriel Ben asked Tacopimp to do some vocals on his track "In Ibiza" which lead to some excellent reviews from innerphaseny.com & dancemusic.about.com. The track also was charted globally by a few fellow techno industry heads. So quickly after that they teamed up to form "Tattoo Detectives. Their first track together as Tattoo Detectives, "ETC." was signed by the legendary Carl Cox for his mix CD "Carl Cox @ Space Ibiza" which was released by Intec Records in July 2006. Carl told Residentadvisor.com "This record is storming" and "Its pumping techno in its fury." Carl also went on to say the track represented the sounds of his legendary Space parties in Ibiza as quoted in the CD.

The follow up single "Il Salto Fuori"got even more support globally and by the likes of Paul Van Dyk & Carl Cox leading the way. The track charted on Cox's Top 10 for November & December 2006. and was picked by Coxy in his Best of 2006 Global Radio Show which aired 12.30.06. The support didn't stop with Cox. Paul Van Dyk has also been a big fan of the track and also been supporting the Gabriel Ben Exclusive Remix in his DJ sets and on his Vonyc Sessions & Frtiz radio shows. PVD used GB's mix in his "Cream Ibiza CD" which came out in June 2008.

The group's single "She Bleeps N' Bloops" got some notable recognition as it made headlines with URB magazine and BEATPORT, becoming a top seller on the internet’s most prominent download music store. "Like a Bitch" also caught on with industry support, and was charted by DJ Lucca. "Dirty Volume" has gained a ton of support, as a regular in Coxy's playlist as well as signed to Adam Sheridan's latest CD compilation on Goodgref. GB's "Days of Groove" track has also gotten some support globally, and to the likings of Technasia. GB's ep "I Love Music" featured the hits "I Love the 80's" & "Something Wicked This Way" which got plays from the likes of Carl Cox, Jon Rundell, amongst others. All the tracks and releases can be found on almost all the internet web stores including Beatport, Juno, Trackitdown, and Dance Records.

The duo have also been captivating crowds with their DJ sets having played all across the US and globally on XM radio, Vonyc Sessions, Afterhours FM in Lima-Peru, Proton Radio and DJ Lucca’s Sound of Acapulco show in Czech Republic which aired New Years Eve in 2007. The duo was also invited by Cox to open for him at PACHA NY back in October 2007 for 4000 people. Now, they can be heard monthly on their Vonyc Show "TeggnO Sessions" airing every 3rd Tuesday. The duo are also frequent guests Afterhours FM aired in Lima, Peru, every couple of months. You can check the schedule to find out all the dates.

This year will see the release of several brand new singles and remixes from GB as well as Tattoo Detectives. Along with a little more international touring in Europe & Ibiza. With support by Carl Cox & Paul Van Dyk amongst many, talent in the studio and on the decks, Gabriel Ben's name and reputation is growing rapidly in 2008 and beyond...

"If you gotta take a drug to hear the music, then you really ain't down wit the shit from day 1 anyway..."

Special Thanks to Gabriel Ben

Miami Underground Movement Proudly presents... " 1605 Session with UMEK " Resident Dj@ M.U.M- Episode 46

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

DJ UMEK

Uroš Umek is internationally acclaimed music producer from Slovenia, seducing the masses with his own music blend for more than a decade. Always on the look for new sounds and determined to challenge every existing cliché in music industry, he managed to define his own vision of vanguard techno. Sure, this would not happen without the support of his loyal peers who’ve joined him on the production platforms such as Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco, with which they defined “Slovenian techno sound? and successfully invested it as an important driving force on the global club scene.

The year 2007 marked the beginning of new chapter in Umek’s music career. After spending enormous amount of time and artistic energy bringing his characteristics sound to the whole new level, he presented new international music therapy called 1605 – Sixteenofive. No doubt this was a very risky move for such an established artist as DJ Umek. But it was the only way for him to stay on top of the game. And it seems he picked up the right decision at the crucial time: the response to his new vision of electronic dance music from his peers, critics, media and most importantly his fans is great and his productions are supported by some top dogs in the industry.

Umek recent productions include highly acclaimed club releases such as Overtake & Command, Ricochet Effect, Another Matter Entirely and Faithful Nights, but it were MTV supported hit singles Posing as Me and Carbon Occasions that stirred the most media attention and crossed over to the daily radio stations. Umek’s releases were lately included on the premiere club compilations mixed by artists such as Sander Kleinenberg, Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, John Digweed, M.I.K.E. or Carl Cox. He was amongst the headliners of esteemed summer music festivals such as Primavera, Monegros or Dance Valley and he conquered the South America on the joint tour with Valentino Kanzyani and Marko Nastić once more. And this was only the introduction in the Umek’s year 2008, when he plans to finally present long expected new artist album and his own live band.

Special Thanks To  Umek and Mr Urban Jeram

Miami Underground Movement proudly presents... Techno legend Alex Bau @ M.U.M Episode 45
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

What's your credo?

Where are not many dj's of this type - dj's who believed in techno from the first minute, dj's who have experienced techno from the very beginning, dj's who have made techno their own thing, dj's who have created their own unique styles or even more - who have developed one over the years and who's name's are synonymous with that specific sound. alex bau is one of those dj's. at the same time, however, there are some slight differences with this guy. why focus on just one style of music? why only minimal sounds? why only techno? why, if you could have a well orchestrated combination of both?

Is it related to the fact that for alex bau, there was once a time before techno? with thousands of records in a collection that spans through many different types, styles and genres of music, certainly there have been many individual records which have left their own, indelible marks. there's no doubt about that! for instance, alex still does depeche mode nights from time to time, just for fun. but his activities with techno don't suffer at all from that, not in the least! with his 5+ hour sets at his first resident club in his southeast bavarian home area, the "libella", where dj hell also started his career back in the 80's, he achieved the reputation as someone who was totally aware of what he was doing, totally dedicated to it, but also someone who was totally infatuated with it. he hosted his own radio show for over 2 years on a local radio station, still the only techno show in the area. however, after countless gigs at the local clubs the time was deemed to be right to prove that he was also able to play at other venues around the globe. while collaborating with his friend sven dedek, whose productions were mainly released under the moniker's "basic implant" or "electric envoy" on labels lsuch as "fine audio recordings" from chris liebing, their tracks hit the technofloors in a very impressive way. during that time he was also able to collect international experiences behind the decks as sven played live. releases like the "phase edit ep", a highly acclaimed and well sold rework of some nitzer ebb ebm classics, or their work for dave angel's "rotation", justin berkovi's "predicaments" or pascal feos' "pv-records" enabled them to reach a much larger audience. finally, after numerous releases for different labels beside his own "toneman", alex released his debut-album "connected" in late 2004. "connected" immediately drew the attention of many high class dj's such as chris liebing, pascal feos and good groove, just to name a few. the fact that these artists, all of whom were working with different styles, grabbed the tracks from "connected", shows that the name of the album couldn't have been chosen any better.

After starting his own label (toneman) back in 2000, alex also started to work on his solo productions for labels such as chris liebing's "clr" or the montreal based label, "default recordings". montreal can be seen as kind of a gauge of alex's dj activities! within 3 years he was booked in montreal four times and his set from the legendary night at aria from january 2006 was even released as a mix-cd, "live at aria / montreal" so that alex came back months later to perform for the release party, once again a night to remember for the montreal techno movement. at this point in time alex was already booked as the headliner and it was reported by numerous emails and guest book entries that it was hardly a mistake to do so

but it's not only montreal where alex is being booked again and again; there are many other places, which is a good indicator that he seems to be a guy who understands what to do when standing in front of a crowd, someone who is always trying to bring the party to the max. clubs like frankfurt's "u60311", munich's "electric delicate", würzburg's "airport", or the legendary "tresor" in berlin are not only the trademarks of german techno club-culture, they can also be found on alex's gig list. brazil, usa, canada, poland, croatia, serbia, holland or the closer austria and switzerland are some of the tour stops on alex's calender, and no matter where, all over the places people can hear and feel how interesting, versatile and powerful techno can be if you understand how to combine minimal and straight techno as a constant up and down. everything is completely under control while the party is going wild, and that is what alex always goes for.

The fact that alex has become an official artist on the highly acclaimed label "zenit", that he has been the platform for acts like marco carola, adam beyer, the advent, gaetano parisio and many more, is the logical consequence of years of dedicated, hard work in good, high quality techno. techno in its purest form, just as described above, is the goal for alex - whether or not it involves playing or producing. on his current album "credo", minimal tunes go together with peaktime slammers in a way that appears obvious and logical. techno can do a lot, if you let it do so. that's the credo - his credo!

Special Thanks to Alex Bau...

Miami Underground Movement proudly presents... Rafe Nunes @ M.U.M Episode 44
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

Rafe started his short but intense road ae road as a house music enthusiastic addict. Then he tried his ideas on producing music, and finally he had the chance to do his turns with his own music as a DJ. Additionally, the new experience as a DJ led him to heavy improvements as a producer.

On a quick rising career, the second remix he ever made, Noa Tylo's "Let's Do It", reached 33º on Billboard Hot Dance Club Play charts. This marked the definite proof that Rafe was ready to boost even the most mainstream music, out from his creative mind.

His efforts are, however, completely focused on underground club music. Techy beats on a mix of progressive grooves and solid sequences could define what one will hear when listening to his releases and DJ sets. It's an unique producing style which also shows how he acts as a DJ.

Special Thanks to Rafe Nunes

Miami Underground Movement proudly presents... Skoozbot - M.U.M. Episode 40

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement.

Brian Connelly (a.k.a. Skoozbot), an Indiana native and Michigan
transplant, has long been interested in the interaction between humans
and technology. This interest has been met in his love of electronic
music, which is made by machines yet fueled by the soul.

As a DJ over the past decade, Brian has never been satisfied
simply blending two tracks together and has long sought to augment his
mixing by incorporating the limitless possibilities provided by
technology. Endless experimentation with both hardware and software
has helped bridge the gap, but as technology continues to grow, so
does Brian's curiosity for using it to open up new possibilities.

This blend of the human and the electronic is further explored in
his productions, where Brian aims to re-create instantaneous human
emotions through electronic sounds. Although these snapshots of our
consciousness can occur for just brief moments in our lives, they can
continue on and be further evolved through music.

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

About Leo Janeiro

Nowadays, Leo Janeiro is considered one of the outstanding DJs in the electronic scene in brazil with all his groovy sets concerning House Music.

From small parties (under the influence of top brazilian DJs, as well as black music) up to nationwide dance floors, Leo Janeiro has drawn his history sharing turntables with international DJs like Carl Cox (UK), Deep Dish (USA), Josh Wink (USA) , Layo & Bushwacka ( UK ) , Booka Shade ( Ger ) , Martin Eyerer  ( Ger ) , Claude VonStroke ( USA ), John Acquaviva ( CAN ) , Pete Tong ( Uk ) and others .

For being a black music party lover, Leo Janeiro was invited to take part in Rio de Janeiros radio station program in 1994. From that moment on, his career has never stopped and he was also been considered one of the main radio DJs.

In 2002, after playing in many clubs and doing lots of gigs, Leo Janeiro was nominated one of the best DJs in Brazil by the Brazilian magazine DJ SOUND and 2007 the best dj scene in Rio . However, little by little his music started to follow other ways: he started flirting with house music and techno that were blowing the dance floors all over the town.

Leo Janeiro has performed full of house music and tech house in most important clubs in Rio , such as Lounge 69 ( Neo ) and Fosfobox ( Bootleg ).

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

Stefano Frisoni Bio;

Stefano from Rimini got into music when he still only 12, by listening to italian dance music and a little bit of house: in the meanwhile it was born the love for making music.

He produces his first production in 1997, by making some dance tracks. In the year 2000 he felt a suddenly upside down, when he first listen to thecno music, thanks to the magic venue in the nearby, The Cocorico' Club, where everything seemed to be different than the other places: it all came to a massive energetic sound!!!!

So in the year 2003 he met my colleague Daniel, a.k.a. CantoDj with whom he started to plan seriously my producer career together. When 2 crazy minds join their forces together, it could only come out a strong and talented project in which his idea and my skills in making music work perfectly together. That's how TEAMTEK was born, a duo project founded by CantoDj and myself.

They year 2007 sees his new collaboration with Francesco Bonora, a close friend of his: They decided to build up a new crew ,the PUNTO G Staff and a new electronic label, which is the ELECTRO G RECORDS Special FRANCESCO BONORA, A.K.A. Miami Underground Movement proudly presents... "Alex D'Elia" MUM Episode 28

M.U.M.-Miami Underground Movement brought to you by Rod B. and Alvaro Garfunk.

ALEX D'ELIA SHORT BIO

Alex D'Elia is born in Riccione, the main center of the italian club scene... He got his passion for music listening hours and hours of his sis records, leading him to be a dj at the age of 13, and won his first dj scratch competion prize at the age of 15, while was entertaining people in small clubs around his area.a

In the meanwhile Alex's passion for music got so bigger, that drove him to built his first midi home studio in his own small room, and from this “small world” came the idea of his first cut project in collaboration with a close friend: P.F.Z "Love into the Future", released on the famous swiss compilation: DJ Energy Parade. Then he knew Andrea Doria and they have begun a collaboration on very different projects, like Avalone One "La onda del ritmo" (The Rhythm Wave) with Ramirez vocals. Another one was Atlantis Ita "See you in the next life", having a great acknowledgment working with Age One, Dino Lenny's U.K. based label. These records had a big room in clubs and was also published on the Pete Tong and Fat Boy Slim's Millenium compilation. Then Alex have produced many other projects, the most famous one is "Isn't life wonderful?", released on IDJ. The song it went in a short time a big room anthem (mostly in the english clubs) and was immediately published on the Ministry of Sound compilation. Constant experimental research, passion for every kind of music and curiosity for samples digital manipulation drove him to build a personal project called Loose Headz.

In the last few years, he is continued to work close to close, cheek to cheek with Andrea Doria, releasing “Jumping Jack” and presenting the first single together called “Arsenico E.P.” both released on BluFin.

ESPERIENZE LAVORATIVE

Miami Underground Movement proudly presents... "Andrea Doria" - M.U.M. Episode 26

M.U.M.-Miami Underground Movement brought to you by Rod B. and Alvaro Garfunk. This week M.U.M. brings you Andrea Doria from Ravenna, Italy.

ANDREA DORIA is 33 years old and lives in Ravenna (famous of its Roman mosaics), close to Bologna, in Italy. At the tender age of 8 his father bought him his first analog synth and since then he realized that this sound is going to be part of his DNA. At the age of 16, he began to develop a passion for computers and he became a programmer. At the arrival of the first 8/16bit computer he started earning a living composing soundtracks for videogames, and also for some Italian software companies, simply using the synth processors (SID/Commodore64) and language machine. Since then Andrea's artistic knowledge developed with a powerful influence of some eclectic artists from the seventies like Klaus Schulze, Richard Wahnfried, Chris and Cosey and Edgar Frose. In the 90s he was completely blown away by the house scene and decided that DJing was going to become his career. He was fascinated by the way these DJs alchemists used to mix sounds and cultures at the same time and created such a big interest in the booming Dance scene. In December 2003, Andrea thought that only by having his own record label would help him in being artistically free in his productions, and "Ready 2 Rock Music" was born. A year later, after the huge success of 'Bucci Bag' started to fade away, success reached after a 8 years long collaboration with his friend Dino Lenny, Andrea decided to look into a new direction and find new ways to push his artistic boundaries and took a year off music production and started to get in the field of 3D art visuals, Creative Thinking and Occult Studies. With his new philosophy of life, "NOT ONLY A DJ", Andrea with the AUM brother ANANDA BOSMAN and 432 Hz crew, is researching, promoting and financing the science of sound frequencies and instruments Tuning to reach the perfect alchemical and AUM-harmonic coherent holo-vibe for the human holo-body.

To know more about the Natural Tuning 432 Hz Frequency go to Ananda's website: http://www.akasha.de/~aton/Unidance.html 4

Miami Underground Movement Proudly presents... "Jay Lumen @ M.U.M." - M.U.M. Episode 25

Rod-B.,Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

Jay Lumen… Music is part of his life since his childhood years. He learnt music in a conservatoire for eight years, which provides a good basis to his ambition of making music.

During his schooldays it shown, that he rather turned the compositions of the classical authors to his own style, than he played the original versions of them. Although he learnt to play on a classical instrument – violin – he early recognized that his desire for creative work wasn’t satisfied with this instrument. Immediately he got his first computer, he started to make his ideas to be heard. In the meantime he started to get to know the synthetizator in the way of self-education. As he obtained the more developed technologies and softwares, developed himself with them, he got more and more closer to that sounding in which he felt himself familiar.

Nowdays he is the one of fastest developer new generation DJ/Producers. As producer he has many international releases on many famous electronic music labels just like, Global Undergrond, Baroque, Whoop!, Extrema, Curvve, etc… Also you can find his tracks on more compilations to: GU Mixed2 (Global Underground), Bagrooves: The Black Collection (Seamless / Absolute), Synchronised 2 (Global Underground), Housexy: Summer In The City (Ministry Of Sound) etc… In his other side he has a vocal house project called „Supaflava” what was in the UK Club Chart Top 20 across 6 weeks. The best position of this track „Time In Motion” was 7th there.

In jun2007 the major label Baroque Records asked Jay to make the next album of Baroque Elements series. After more then 6 months intensive work in february of 2008, Jay’s first double album „Baroque Elements 002” is out in the online and offline shops to. You can find the point where the DJ and producer meets when you listen BE002, couse It’s a mixed artist album. Also there is a DJ friendly (unmixed ) version on the second CD. The first feedbacks are really good whereas the promotional version of the album started at 11th place on the British Plastic Music Chart, leaves behind such big names as: „The Orb” or „Martin Solveig”. Also the”Elements Taster EP” vinyl with 2 tracks of BE002 is in the top sellers on juno permanently.

As DJ he made his first party in the basic school when he was 14 years old only. In the beginning he played his favourite tracks from vinyl, but later, following the technical development, he changed the vinyl to using CDs. He builds his sets from the musical basis of house, tech-house, and progressive house. His sounding is featured by dynamic, pulsating grooves as you can hear it also in his compositions and in his sets to.
In these times Jay Lumen plays around the world … just like at last times in Austria, Serbia, Poland,  Egypt, India, England, etc…

Special Thanks to Jay Lumen

They year 2007 sees his new collaboration with Francesco Bonora, a close friend of his: They decided to build up a new crew ,the PUNTO G Staff and a new electronic label, which is the ELECTRO G RECORDS (www.myspace.com/electrogrecords).

Music was my first love…and still I am in love!
If you ask him, what is most important in his life…he will answer to you: The Beat, The Drum, The Bassline…The Rythm Of The Heart: HOUSE MUSIC!!
As long as he can remember he loved music…the Hard Rock of 70's, the New Romantic Style of the 80's, the Beat of the 90's…in all this years of spinning around he never lost his feeling, always looking for the next evolution step. The reason is maybe that he lived most of his life as a Globetrotter, born in Vienna, growen up in Germany, for short periods he lived in Switzerland, Avstrija, Spain, Croatia. He also loved to check out the Clubs in Europe as an Partyanimal.

He's music career started in 1987 in a small discoteque in Dubrovnik/Croatia, where he played the comercial records for the first time. In 1991 his journey took him to back to Germany (Augsburg), where he was quickly noticed and regulary hired to play the music in numerous Clubs and Festivals, also in 1993, on one sunday morning, he invited some people to one Club in Augsburg, to continue one party, the After Party was born! For years was this club in one basement almost every sunday morning, the last exit for partypeople! In 1994 he played for the first time in front of 3000 people at the WOODSTOCK Revival Festival in Ausburg/Halle 6, spinning records of that time. One year later he opened together with a friend he's first club called XTC in Augsburg. In the year 2000 he returned home to Slovenia.
After his arrival, he continued his comercial path as DJ and owner of KRA-KRA ale-house (bar), until he become a leaseholder of the Sing-Sing Club where he finally discovered his love for Electric Music in 2002.

Two years later he started to organize again After Partys in Ljubljana and introduced himself for the first time to the larger audience. At the After Party of SINDUSTRY 2004, which he organized himself he animated the audience together with DJ UMEK and DJ ALEKSIJ.

In a very short period of time he started to play in Slovenian clubs as DJ, while organizing at the same time some of the significant After Partys as: SINDUSTRY 2004, MEET ME AFTER 2005, VALENTINO KANZYANI, DESYEN MASIELLO, DEEP DISH and similar. On his After Party's he hosted names like: Sharam (Deep Dish), Steve Porter, Frederik (Pako&Frederik), Funk D'Void, Sonique, Toni Rios, Umek, Valentino Kanzyani, David Penn, Marko Nastic, Hernan Cattaneo...

Till today he allready played in all the important clubs and Afters in Slovenia (D.Morales After-Club Lipa, 24 h New Year Afterhour Maraton, Ambasada Gavioli, Fun Factory, Lipa, Jukebox, Stuk Maribor, Trust, Yucatan, Impulz, Escape…) and also a lot of important gigs all over the world: MIAMI WMC 2008, LONDON, ITALY, SPAIN, IBIZA, AUSTRIA ,TURKEY and CROATIA (Nightshift Summer Edition-Bale, Beach Club Punta, Radio Krk, Club Papaya (Pag), Summer Closing Festival (Kostrenica), ...). Also he played on some magnificant Festivals like: DISCONAUTICA, WOODSHOCK, PAPAYA MOTOMUSIC SUMMERFESTIVAL...

He played together with well known names in music as: Eelke Klejin, Bob Sinclar, Hernan Cattaneo, Sebastian Ingrosso, Steva Angello, Roman Flugel, Rui Da Silva, Chris Lake, Shapeshifters, The Freemasons, Toni Garcia, Mar-T, Junior Jack, Umek, Valentino Kanzyani, Pako & Frederik, Darren Emerson, Steve Porter, Joe Mama, Aleksij, Eddy F., Davide Manali, Paolo Barbato, Crazy Lemon, MYNC Project, DEF E., Seamus Haji, Sonique, Roby Sartarelli, Miss Jools, Paulette, James Talk, Kiko Navarro, Mark Knight, Steve Porter, Chus, David Penn, Lexicon Avenue, Toni Rios, Sonique, Justin Drake, Silicone Soul, Funk D' Void, Marshall Jefferson, Marko Nastic,…)

At the moment he is the Promotor & Resident DJ of the biggest Club »FACTORY« in Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia and he is working in the studio on his production with ZERO ABSENCE and a new project called: THE BAWANI PROJECT.

With almost 40 years of age and with 20 years of spinning and playing across Europe….he's not going to stop, as long the people will dance to his music!

Keep on groovin'!
Producer, DJ, Musician/Composer, and vocal… Tomy Declerque, Jackiedj, KayKay and Bawani. Four totally different spirits, it turned out, are stronger connected that it would seem at first sight. Diversity is not only good but its sometimes necessary and indispensable. That was the first lession members of Zero Absence and the Bawani Project won. Four people with different backgrounds, life styles and knowledge joined their forces, not only experiences but energy, expectation, wishes, goals, love for music and huge amount of time. First the Zero Absence was born, than the Bawani Project layed eyes on light of the world. Their first release shows they fell for new, fresh electro vibes. I Found a Star was born. The first creation of Z.A. feat Bawani project was more or less very unexpected success. In a week it occured on top 100 Chart on one of central Slovenian radio stations. It started on 33.th place and in only few weeks it rose to the 1. place where it is in the moment (jan 08) of creating first Biography of this artistic group. Critics were fabulous, response of audience enviable. The group performed life for the first time on Amnesia World Tour in leading Club in Ljubljana – Factory, back to back with some greatest artists as Mar T, Micah. Micah having world tour with Mar T honoured them with performing live with them. People loved it. Another success was presentation of I Found a Star on american portal ourstage.com where they reached 1st place among more than 400 entries and made it to quarter – finals. After first live performance I Found a Star was performed numerously in Slovenia, Croatia, Spain and Italy.

A slightly new bit and vibes that carries their first-born is captured in second creation called »Don˙t«.
The biggest sucess for Zero Absence, not only for Jackiedj himself, was to present the track at 6 gigs during the WMC 2008 in Miami.

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement

He was born on the 6th of January 1980 in Budapest, then he moved to the countryside with his family at the age of ten. His father’s love of music also infected him in his early years. During the primary school years he learnt playing on synthesizer. Then in the age of 15 he got his first computer, but in the beginning he only played onto that, but later he discovered the other possibilities of the computer. In the years about 1996/1997 between the walls of the legendary discotheque Flört, he got to know the music which was embedded his memory forever (Quench-Dreams). He wrote his first musics in the way of Fast Tracker, which wasn’t an acceptable quality at the time. Spending a lot of years with playing music and working hard, his work slowly but surely bore its fruit. By the time he felt himself to be ready to show his works to other people, 5 years has passed. In 2000 he wrote the song “Across the sahara”, wich has also played by Mo Shic and later has been released by Sauna Recordings. Getting enthusiastic on this success he sent more and more tracks to the Israelian artist, therefore in december 2001 Mo Shic asked him to make an exclusive music, what Mo Shic announced on his cd “DJ Mag World Series – Mixed by Mo Shic” in England.

After this publishments, several positive feedbacks, the love and appreciation of the people made him to go further on this way. He made a remix to the Hungarian CHI Recordings, and a common music with Andro, which got the title “She is my destiny” and became the last track of the cd “Progressive Sounds of Budapest – Mixed by Kühl & Monkz”. Later he worked together with Andro, which became the track “Liquid State & Solid State” and announced by the Italian Screen Recordings. In 2005 three of his own bakelites came out the titles of “Alterna”, “Fields”, and “Circular”. In the meantime he appeared on several compilation albums such as “Sog Files”, “Inception”, “Budapest Parade 2003”, “Budapest Parade 2004” and on mix albums of some world famous djs like: Hernan Cattaneo, Andrew K, DJ 19 and Tomas Haverlik.

He has started his dj career in 2003. During his only one and a half year-long career he already has played in whole Hungary. He has played many times on abroad in the Emirates, Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, and they invite Snake back time to time. In 2005 at the voting of the Partycom Evote, ‘Snake Sedrick & Khans – Circular’ won the ‘track of the year’ title. In the meantime he was continuously making new tracks and remixes, and with his Slovakian friend, Peter, they established the Tilth Music digital label, where he plays an important role as A&R. For the ask of the American Proton Radio, Andro, Yvel & Tristan and Snake Sedrick has started their monthly 4 hour-show, which got the title Indigo.

Between 2005 and 2007 he worked for Tilth Music mostly, and he released 22 tracks on it. The Tilth DJ’s agency started in 2007 september and Snake is one of the artist in it beside Jay Lumen, Add 2 Basket & Belocca.

Miami Underground Movement Proudly presents... " 1605 Session with UMEK " and his new Residency @ M.U.M- Episode 20 Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement  and new Resident Dj UMEK 1605 Session.

" Dj Joao Paulo @ M.U.M" - M.U.M Episode 18 Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement.

Minimal & Tech House

About João Paulo

João Paulo had his first contact with eletronic music by the age of 15, at Dr. Smith club. Everyone in town knows for sure the club’s story and its reputation to always bring the main international attractions to Rio de Janeiro. One of the club’s owner was his oldest brother, so, he was familiarized since he was a kid with the dancefloor, which made him become part of that universe.

Ten years after, already grown up and comfortable at the set, João Paulo has ended up by owning the pickups and has become a resident at three carioca parties: Bootleg, Mínima and Loading. With nothing but three years of career, the DJ has already participated of the Creamfields Festival in Rio de Janeiro, the Chemical Music Festival, Paz Eletrônica, Xxxperience 100º edition, Tribe, and has already played at the following parties: Burn Energy Music, Nokia Trends Mob Jam, Tim Verão at Ipanema Beach, RBK Tops, Ballantine’s Impress and Ipanema Stereo Beach 2007/2008, representing Bootleg.

In 2007, João Paulo has gone beyond the national fronteers and played at We Love Brasil, at the Carlton Hotel and at Bass Walk Records, at the club Pawl Shop, during the Winter Music Conference 2007, in Miami. Right after the conference, the DJ left to the south of Brazil, where he opened the project Life is a Loop at the club Warung, in Santa Catarina. Besides these gigs, during the Skol Beats 2007, he was invited to play at Pacha, at the party We Love Sundays.

At this time, João Paulo shared the pickups with great Brazilian names of the electronic music, such as Gui Boratto, Life is a Loop, Mary Zander, Maurício Lopes, Mau Mau, Leo Janeiro, Flow & Zeo, among many others.

Remarkable international artists also share the set with him. In this team, DJs like Fat Boy Slim, Booka Shade, Deep Dish, Tiga, Miss Kittin, Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Benni Benassi, Christian Smith, Martin Eyerer, Steve Lawler, Serge Santiago, Thomas Schumacher, Format B, Tim Healey, King Unique, Spirit Catcher, Luke Dzierzek, Tobias Lutzenkirchen are together, just to mention some of them.

DJ João Paulo’s style varies among techno, tech house and minimal. At the beginning, house and electro were the first influences in his sets, basically due to his brother’s sound and also because of the vocals and mixes at that time. In Winter Music, 2006, the DJ met the minimal deeper and fell in love with this music gender. Artists like Format B, Audio Fly and Trentemoller became therefore his big influences. At the beginning of 2007, he incorporated techno and decided to add those beats in his sets. Nowadays, João Paulo doesn’t like to be considered from a specific style and his case goes from house to minimal.

Another big characteristic of the DJ is his big interest in technology, mostly towards to musical universe. João Paulo researches not only music, but also last generation software like Final Scratch, Traktor DJ Studio, Serato Scratch Live and Ableton Live. The result is a vast knowledge of mixing techniques and an increasing number of tools to build songs. And the effect of it, we can see it on the dancefloor.

Special Thanks to JP

Dave DK BIOGRAPHY http://www.davedk.com

DJ & producer David Krasemann, better known as Dave DK has been making
waves in the electronic music scene for a couple of years now, and now starting to
emerge as a serious player. Since the early 90's he was fascinated by the
upcoming techno movement, which eventually led to his own active initiation. 1995
was the starting point for the then 17 year old. Together with a longtime friend,
Dave produced his first tracks and was involved in the organization of
underground techno and house partys, constantly trying to spread and push new
electronic music.
Searching for new electronic sounds every day and having honed his skills as a
producer in his chosen home Berlin, Dave released his first record on Müller
Records in 1998. His DJ activities had been highly pushed since that time. In 1999
he became a resident DJ at Tresor/Globus club in Berlin, later on also at the
legendary Panorama Bar. Beside his remix productions for Beroshima and
Skiebäck he released records on raum...musik., Decore, Lifetime Music and
Cadeaux.
As Dave is an open minded person who resents musical limits, he doesn’t want to
be reduced to one style.  His sound simply is the result of different styles that have
influenced him throughout the years. "I have a passion for the wide range between
house and techno as well as pop music and dancefloor stuff of the early 90's",
says Dave.
Though he’s elegantly juggling a variety of electronic music to create his own style,
in his tracks he often combines tragic melodies with kickin’ grooves that transform
your body into a twisting stampede of electricity, with trademark swing and warm
funk.
The year 2000 can be marked as the first highlight in his career: his debut album
"sensory overload“ had been released on Müller Records and there were musical
excursions on Cologne’s Television label as well as on the Barcelona based
Regular label. Dave is now currently recording for Moodmusic and also on
Playhouse (a collaboration with Holger „Smash TV“ Zilske) which brings him even
closer to his idea of electronic house tunes.
In November 2007 Dave released his second album „Lights and Colours“ on
Moodmusic.
For Dave DK, music is a model of living in which he’s able to enhance his skills in
order to realise his vision of modern electronic club and home entertainment –
expect more fantastic releases in the very near future.

Worldwide gigs:

all over Germany, Japan, Brazil,China, Switzerland, Spain, Holland, Poland, Czech
Republic, Slovenia, Israel, Portugal, Greece, Ukraine, USA , UK, Russia, Finland,

The start in the end of 80’s was in playground parties, when the tapes recorded from
the radio and a few records bought by his mother opened the gates of a culture that
was only beginning. Always ahead of his time, Roger is one of the most popular and
respected DJ’s in Brazil and the most prestigious DJs in Brazil. The aggressive style is
the trademark of his DJ set with heavy energy sounds, perfect mix that can hypnotize
the crown and a outsdanding carisma.

The full-energy as a performer is real strong in every act of his DJ Set. It is really
thrilling to see him performing live and it’s impossible to be indifferent to him, even
those who do not like his kind of music can get very impressed by his skills with such a
outstanding performance full of technique and emotion. Everything a DJ can do with
deck’s and a mixer it’s just fun for him. His sound is a long trip into a evolution mix
with a unique mix of Trance & progressive, but make no mistake to underestimate his
taste for music and don’t get surprised to listen a bite of techno or Electro during his
set. This man is not afraid of new sounds. His talent as a awesome turntableist is an
extra tocuh and the crowd follows him with every mix, scratch or back-spin.
In his home country, he is a icon to a hole generation and every week, he reaches
more than 200.000 listeners at his DJ Show at Radio Jovem Pan Fm, the bigest
satellite radio station in brazil. On 2005 he won the as “Best DJ? on the annual
ceremony of the DJ Sound Magazine Awards, the most importat in Latin America and
his performance in big festivals like SKOL BEATS and CREAMFIELDS side to side with
names like Tiesto, Fatboy Slim, Armin Van Buure, Ferry Corsten, Marco V and many
more worldwide top artists.

All this conection to music also moved him to world of studios, where the DJ can finally
create his own style and sounds. In 1998 he created his digital alter-ego named
BADBLOCK and started to put in the mix his ideas... After a good time of work the
results started to came up and some of these tracks were included in top seling
compilations in the brazillian market. In 2007 he is back to the studios once again and
his new tracks must be avaiable very soon.

His outstanding talent was exposed to the world after his performance for 200.000
people during the Rio Parade in june of 2003, the biggest international parade in Latin-
america. In December of the same year, he also produced and played at the first dutch
event in brazil: Kremlin World Tour was a huge success with more than 5.000 party
people and he shared the deck’s with the dutch DJ’s Don Diablo and Astrid. The next
step in career was to move outside his home country borders, and so he did. During a
his first international tour he reached Europe with huge success on his gig’s in some of
the coolest club’s and events.

The music business is also in his target. The DJ feeling put him in the spot in one of
the biggest companies on the music business: Sony Music. In 2004 he started his own
company, so NRG Music & Management made it ?s first steps. Recently, he just signed
a deal with Maxpop Music to release a series of new products together with Armada
Music, Armin Van Buuren ?s own label and on of the biggest dance labels in the world.
Always conected with the DJ Culture, Roger was invited by DJ Sound Magazine
(www.djsound.com.br) to be a correspondent in Rio de Janeiro and also found some
time to colaborate in one of the most popular websites in brazil (www.riofesta.com.br)
where he makes some music and event reviews, putting on the net his point of view of
the market.

The end of this story is far away from the end, and a new chapter is writen every
night, after every scratch, every mix... It’s time to move forward and break the
brazillian borders and show the world whow long can he go.

Miami Underground Movement proudly presents... "Alvaro Garfunk Making Moves @ M.U.M" - M.U.M Episode 13
Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the "Miami Underground Movement."

At an early age in life, music and broadcast took much interest in the mind of Alvaro Garcia. By 1995, the urge to play vinyl combined with a used pair of Technics 1200's took Alvaro by storm. After spinning at many parties and gatherings, he made his way on a local pirate radio station. With this experience he later ventured on to a full studio production at Florida International University. He then attained his own radio show called "The Friday Pulse" which took listeners on a 2 hour journey each week, successfully spanning 4 years. This is where the progressive techno style of “Garfunk? came about. From then on he stretched beyond the airwaves into podcasts, internet streams, and playing live at venues in Miami, Orlando, and Rio de Janeiro.

Alvaro graduated F.I.U. with a B.B.A. only to rediscover his passion for music. To follow his calling, he attended SAE, the School for Audio Engineering. Graduating from SAE Miami proved to be a very challenging and rewarding experience. Recording, producing, and mixing are skills which came into full swing on current projects. Alvaro co-founded KG Miami Recordings with Eric Kraffman and they also published a weekly iTunes podcast which has attained global exposure and recognition. With guests like Timo Maas, Chaim, Phonique, Spirit Catcher and more, the KG Miami Podcast was named “New and Notable? and “Featured Podcast? in the iTunes Germany music store. KG Miami Recordings has been spreading its niche sound and has released tracks on digital distribution sites worldwide.

ARIEL G & JESSE PEREZ

The partnership of Ariel G & Jesse Perez is the story of two young DJ’s/Producers from Miami, whose true passion lay in Electronic Music. As teenage acquaintances they quickly realized each other’s talents for remixing and producing quality Electronic Music. This natural bond fueled an interest in both Ariel and Jesse to help each other successfully further their music careers.

For several years Ariel G & Jesse Perez joined forces and began to take weekly Hip Hop gigs at different nightclubs and lounges throughout the Miami area. This made a long night of playing music an opportunity to discuss current (Electronic) projects they currently worked on individually. Around this time Ariel was also launching the first releases from his newly formed Label, Behold Recordings, featuring remixes from Jeff Bennett, Chris Fortier, and Saeed Younan. Jesse was then asked to remix Behold’s new release, and the rest is history.

Jesse Perez became one of the biggest artists on Behold, having almost every track he touched Chart top 40 and Ariel G took on a residency at one of world’s best known nightclubs, Club Space 34. Here he shared the booth with the likes of Sasha, Pete Tong, Sharam, Desyn Masiello, Nic Fanciulli, Sander Kleinenberg, Roger Sanchez, Steve Lawler, Ceballos, Oscar G, and many others.

Together, Ariel G & Jesse Perez, form a duo that is unique with their experience, knowledge, and appreciation of all forms of music. It is not surprising to hear them push the envelope and drop an original 80’s Classic in one of their live sets to stir up the crowd. In a day where it is hard to depict refreshing new talent, they are at the forefront of the future.

Miami Underground Movement proudly presents... "Dj superstar Jelo Live Set" - M.U.M Episode 10

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the premiere of "Miami Underground Movement."

He has remixed pop stars, produced great tracks and performed around the globe. He is known as 'The people's DJ' and one of the fastest beatmatchers live on decks amongst Canadians. A character that is an electronic music kitchen sink that has become a trailblazing influence on the floors, the streets, in people's cars and homes. His live shows are simply dazzling. The DJ known only as Jelo is a leader in North America's electronic music movement and an innovator and ambassador to all things hard and funky in Canada. Since his days supplying the heartbeat of Toronto's dancefloors in Eastern Bloc records to the most obscure clubs in the cozy corners of his Country one thing has become obvious - Experiencing these awe-inspired and interactive sets, regarded legendary by many, is what makes the Jelo experience different than that found with the average DJ.

His straightforward 'take the bull by the horns' approach towards music and performing has kept Jelo amongst the top echelons of DJs in Canada. His style of presentation is unique and bridges the gap between audience and performer. Jelo becomes one with the audience and uses his uncanny abilities to read a floor, any floor, regardless of where he is. The young DJ brought about this awareness of 'new' music that is often refered to as 'banging house, electro, electro house and techno' to be a fashionable asset. Canada had no clue what hit them ! He was the first DJ in the Toronto clubs to usher in Speed Garage, Hard House, Nu Skool sounds and never sticking to one genre. He was constantly mashing things up. An innovator of moving sounds, even Eye Magazine awarded him the prestigious "most innovative DJ" award in their yearly DJ pools. Incorporating the spiciest elements of house, techno, breaks and rock blended with wild mixing abilities gives this DJ the distinction of all-around artist, entertainer, and performer. No stranger to travel he has dazzled thousands in Greece, England, Dubai, Taiwan, Coast to Coast in the USA and every major urban centre in his home country of Canada. There is not one venue that can resist Jelo, big or small, at anytime, anywhere.

Always maintaining the underground cool and respect of his peers Jelo refuses to compromise his musical principles. He exudes the authenticity of someone truly involved in a rhythmical love affair with music. The knowledge of artists and record labels is surpassed only by his natural drive to spread the joy these sounds has brought him. Always learning and always improving, the future for Jelo is guided by an awesome natural intensity, an astonishing musical dedication and a drive to change the world- one beat at a time.

Special thanks To Jelo!!!

Uros Umek is internationally acclaimed deejay and music producer from Slovenia, seducing the masses with his own music blend for more than a decade. Always on the look for new sounds and determined to challenge every existing cliché in music industry, he managed to define his own vision of vanguard techno. Sure, this would not happen without the support of his loyal peers who've joined him on the production platforms such as Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco, with which they defined "Slovenian techno sound" and successfully it as an important driving force on the global club scene.

He started his journey to the stardome as an excellent athlete, running between two baskets, but it was Euterpe the Muse of music and poetry that paved Umek's life-path. She got him totally unprepared, seduced him with no further notice, so he had no chance of getting out of her treads. He devoted his life, his heart, all of his passion and energy, to the sounds he discovered as a teenager. Pioneering the genre he became one of its most appreciated ambassadors with faithful worldwide audience simply known as The Father (of Slovenian techno).

Sleeping on past achievements was never Umek's thing. So it's nosurprise he decided for complete renovation of his sound and live set performance though being steady member of Top 100 DJ lists for almost a decade. The year 2007 marks beginning of a new chapter in his music career. After spending enormous amount of time and artistic energy bringing his characteristic sound to the whole new level, he presented new international music therapy called 1605 – Sixteenofive. No doubt this was a very risky move. But it was the only way for him to stay on top of the game. And it seems he made the right decision at the crucial time: the response to his new vision of electronic dance music from his peers, critics, media and most importantly his fans is great and his production is supported by some top names in the industry.

FALLING IN LOVE
"As far as I remember, my first serious contact with music was trough pop artists such as Michael Jackson, Modern Talking, Falco and Yugoslavian singer Daniel, who rocked the Eurosong audience in the early 80's with the infamous hit single Djuli. (Laugh.) My mother is the one to blame. She bought me my first radio which I've listened to 'till exhaustion," apologizes Uros.

He brought his music passion to the next level few years latter, discovering the record button on his first double cassette player/recorder. "That enabled me to start my own music collection. I've recorded songs from Slovenian disco chart program, which presented top commercial tunes on weekly basis. I also managed to get my hands on some rare pirate cassettes with dance and techno tunes, but even few years after Slovenia became independent I didn't really know where to look for that modern electronic sounds that I liked so much. I didn't know anyone who listened to that stuff. Until I discovered Cool Night, specialized broadcast on Ljubljana's alternative student radio station. The Monday evening slot was run by original pioneers of electronic dance culture in Slovenia, Primoz Pecovnik (now boss of indie label Matrix Music), Brane Zorman aka MC Brane of Beitthron and Aldo Ivancic of Borghesia.

HE'LL BURN IN HELL
If there's any symbolism in the beginning of his clubbing career, DJ Umek won't escape burning in Hell for at least few decades: "I've told my mother I'm going to church to attend festive midnight mass on the Christmas night, but I was determined to visit MC Brane's party at Ljubljana's underground club K4 for the first time that night. I was expected to be home at 1 am, but wasn't 'till 4 am, so the curfew was imminent," Umek remembers popping his club cherry.

When the martial law eventually lifted and his mum decided to soften the regime, he found himself dealing with new challenge. He was allowed to go clubbing at the weekends but was expected to be home at 3 am. The trick was, as it usually is, that the first morning bus to his home neighborhood departed from the centre of the city fifteen minutes later. Solving problem wasn't easy, but being young and determined there was no problem for him running trough the half of the city twice a week: "Running few kilometers in the middle of the night after clubbing really wasn't as hard as it seems. I was training basketball at that time, so I was really fit." It's more than a decade since he traded career of basketball superstar for the nightlife debauchery. It would be interesting to see what he could have achieved as an athlete. Namely, he was selected for the junior national team just as he parted from the sports, and some of his former colleagues became key players in the top USA and European basketball leagues.

HE GOT HOOKED
The industrial designed K4 club in the basement of Student's Union HQ in the centre of Ljubljana is still considered to be Umek's resident club, although he's not an official resident deejay anymore. But since his most loyal fans are still gathering there, K4 remains the playground for testing new productions, concepts and sounds. "It's where everything started. This is the place where I've got in touch with first Slovenian electronic projects such as Anna Lies, Clox or Random Logic. Some of those guys were and still are important part of my life. It was Jure Havlicek who ultimately influenced my decision to get involved in professional music production. Gregor Zemljic is mastering all of my tracks. And I've founded my first band Mouse Trap with Uros and Vid, who have opened my eyes and ears to this culture."

It was his friend's Uros home where Umek got in touch with UK based pirate radio stations such as Green Apple/Dance Nation. "We picked up this programs via satellite dish. They played hardcore, breakbeat and techno non stop at the weekend, and even though we were recording it, we never left the house so we would not miss anything!" His friend was also the one who introduced him the Screen Tracker. "It was the very basic 8-bit resolution production tool with four mono channels, but that's how everything started. After I've finally managed to save enough money to buy proper sampler, the outside World ceased to exist. I've became totally obsessed with that box. I've spent up to sixteen hours a day working on that machine."

AND SO HE BEGAN
Although he's established technician, master of three decks and FX performances, it wasn't easy for Umek to get acquainted with those needles and mixers in the first place. You have to bear in mind his home country was part of former eastern block and most of the small clubs could only afford cassette and CD players at that time. "I could only dream of having my own decks in the beginning of 90's. As a single parent my mother could not afford that kind of expense. But I was lucky I've met few guys that recognized the talent in me and gave me the opportunity to start."

Umek was regular at club Palma matinees at that time. He spent most of the afternoons standing in the corner watching deejay mixing records, until one day resident DJ Alf offered him to finish his set. He seized the opportunity, somehow managed to get trough the night and they've agreed he can practice on that decks and mixer for an hour or so before the weekly matinee. "After I've conquered the technique and performed for a few times in Palma, I've got offered opening slot at Aldo's night in K4. It only paid as much to buy one CD, but it was a steady job and I really liked it." It was also the time when he decided to sell his collection of 200 CDs. "It's something I still regret, but it was the only way to earn money I needed to buy vinyl."

In the early 90s buying techno records seemed almost a mission impossible for someone living and working in Slovenia. Closest shop with that kind of music was in Germany, almost 500 kilometers away from Ljubljana. "We heard there are some records shops in Munich. So we've booked the weekly shopping bus, drove to Munich, and found that shops on our own. It wasn't easy but we've successfully finished that adventure. I've only had enough money to buy eight records, but this is how my collection started."

BUILDING THE SCENE
Germany was also the place where Umek got in touch with the rave scene. "It was an amazing experience, when I attended my first Technomania party with 15.000 revelers on seven floors placed in a hangar on the outskirts of Munich. And when I've entered twice as bigger Mayday arena for the first time I knew I want to be in that deejay booth one day. Few years later I was. Although I've thought to myself what the heck am I doing at that commercial masquerade in the backstage, I've changed my mind when I've finally stepped into the deejay booth. I've seen all those kids waving hands and shouting to me as being their god, and I'm sure some of them thought just the same as I did years before them. So, I've just smiled and performed one of the best sets of my career that can still be found on the internet."

Totally hooked on exploding ravemania, Umek and his peers started organizing bus transfers to rave parties in Germany. They were enyoing themselves and they were learning along the way. So it was just a matter of time when they decided to start putting up their own events. "The first one was total disaster," remembers Umek. "We've leased the local fireman's hall for the night but only managed to attract hundred of revelers. We were so broke, we couldn't even afford cleaning lady the morning after." But they could not be stopped by that debacle. They worked their way from event to event, got in charge of small club in the outskirts of Ljubljana and gradually became one of the leading promoters in the country.

"I still remember the illegal rave party we've organized in the countryside outside Ljubljana. It attracted surprisingly big mass of people and one of the main national newspapers reported of the incident, since we were dispersed by the police. And there was the local politician, real smart guy that made us all laugh: he stated that the cows in the nearby village stopped lactating ( i.e. giving milk) because of the stress induced by loud techno music. … No, I'm not kidding. This really was in the papers and can still be found in the archives."

THE BIG BREAK
DJ Umek made his name in Slovenia by hosting some of the best club nights in the country. Clubbing scene in Zagreb, Croatia was much stronger in the beginning of 90s, but it was him and his peers that changed that in just a few years by turning their home turf into most prolific party scene in the whole region. It was also the time of experimenting for Umek. He was mostly known as techno deejay, but loved to play underground house, too, especially at the after parties. And since he had the biggest collection of house records in Slovenia, he quickly became involved in building the house scene as well. At some point he was so much into house, he played four gigs a week, but only twice a month techno set. "I felt really suffocated as an artist with all that house, because I couldn't focus on techno, my main genre. One night at Ambasada Gavioli I decided I won't play house anymore. I grabbed some Chicago house records, pitched them, played really banging set and gave farewell to the club. I've returned to K4 and focus on techno again."

He returned to Ambasada Gavioli the next year, this time as a techno specialist. Since he was treated as the second resident, the favorite of club management always being his good friend Valentino Kanzyani, Umek had no competitive clause and could take bookings wherever and whenever he desired. Meeting top techno DJs from all over the world, establishing new friendships and gathering contacts he started performing at the best venues all over the World. Quickly he assembled crowds of faithful fans from Berlin to Tokyo, making impression as a great technician and programmer, but it was his special blend of music known as Slovenian Techno which has put him on the map as one of the tope names in the genre.

RECYCLED LOOPS
As the founding pillar of Slovenian electronic music scene Umek co-founded his first label in the mid 90s. Absense (and its sub-label Expire) was the first specialized techno label in the region, home to artists such as Umek, Anorak, Random Logic, Brother's Yard or Clox, quickly becoming popular with artists such as Laurent Garnier or Sven Väth because of its unique sound.

But it were the Recycled Loops in Earresistible Musick labels that really established Slovenian electronic dance sound as one of the driving forces on the global scale. The first mentioned joint venture with Valentino Kanzyani was and still is reserved for underground techno releases, while the second serves as a platform for hard, electronic house experiments. "The idea for starting our own label wasn't originally ours. The plan was to launch Next Wave imprint as Ambasada Gavioli offspring. Everything was set up, we've recorded our first record, but then suddenly Valentino terminated his partnership with the club management, and since I was performing there solely as a favor to him, I left too. But we were determined to release our production and decided to start the label on our own. The first release was distributed by Prime and since it sold good they've supported the launch of our own label. The name was picked up as a statement and description for the sound we were promoting at the same time. Namely, that was the time when we recycled old techno loops."

Umek is currently involved in running another two independent labels. He is one of four guys behind experimental Astrodisco project, which is Slovenia's unique answer to "minimal" explosion. The other one is the extension of his new 1605 – Sixteeenofive concept, which was launched in the early 2007 as international platform for promotion and development of new electronic sound structures and approaches to deejay performances. Guy Gerber, Extrawelt, Gregor Tresher, Billy Nasty, Mikkel Metal, Mike del Saar, Matthew Hoag, Alex Long and other artists are already involved.

WANT TO RECREATE?
Although not so known to international crowd Consumer Recreation project played major role in Umek's career and was really important for the progression of Slovenian electronic music scene, which is still developing nicely. The incentive which includes deejays Bizzi, Dojaja, Psiho & Plotz started as a promotion crew behind some major techno events in the country. It became even more important as the weekly radio show and label of the same name were lunched. "The basic idea behind this project was to promote the freshest stuff on the scene. At that time I was already household name in the global techno circuit, so I was sent a lot of promos which we played in our radio show and at the clubs. For example: our radio policy was to never play any record more than once, since we didn't even have enough time to play everything we wanted."

When Consumer Recreation joined forces with Taotech and some other guys Explicit Music was born. It brought the organization part of Slovenian party scene on the whole new level. Big open air festival series such as Meet Me and Sindustry, indoor parties such as EUrora and the string of smaller club nights marked the beginning of new millennium in the whole region, not only in Slovenia. In 2005 Explicit Music was dissolved and Futuristing Music crew stepped into its place continuing the legacy. The productions of FM crew include major annual events such as DiscoNautica gathering, Umek's solo action in Ljubljana's central park Tivoli and The Day of Electronica festival.

The Astrodisco project is original Slovenian answer to "minimal explosion". It's designed as a test-platform for creative multimedia boutique club nights wrapped into futuristic electronic sounds. It builds on the whole club experience, authentic music production, unique décor, exclusive VJ performances and unusual combinations of arts and crafts such as building real moving Astrobots.

LOOK AHEAD
The classic ambient of summer theatre designed by eminent architect Jozef Plecnik hosted Dan elektronike (The Day of Electronica) party, the launch pad for Umek's new project 1605 – Sixteeenofive in May 2007. New international sound development platform is designed to promote live performances of vanguard electronic artists. Gregor Tresher, Guy Gerber, Mikkel Metal, Extrawelt and leading Slovenian producers were hand picked to perform at this event.

The launch of 1605 – Sixteenofive platform marks the beginning of a new chapter in DJ Umek's music career as he spent enormous amount of time and artistic energy bringing his characteristics sound to the whole new level. No doubt this was a very risky move. But it was the only way for him to stay on top of the game. And it seems he made the right decision at the right time: the response to his new vision of electronic dance music from his peers, critics, media and most importantly his fans is great and his production is supported by some top names in the industry.

The third edition of annual Umek at Park Tivoli open air party which attracted more than 30.000 souls was also the right time and place to test the new equipment. On that occasion Umek put in motion his new digital setup. But this is just the beginning of his live performance refreshments that will be presented to the public once his long expected new artists album will finally be released.

Special Thanks To  Umek and Mr Urban Jeram

Aged only 25 James Talk is already one very busy lad. Hailing from the murkiest waters of Southampton, James has already achieved a tremendous amount at such a young age and it seems like things aren't slowing down either. Be it through his DJing or productions, causing mayhem on the world's finest dancefloors with the very best in funky tech and acid house is his specialist subject and it takes no mastermind to realize that Talk is the name and very much the answer.

Rewind ten years and James' addiction to this stuff we call house was already in its infancy. Allured by the acid basslines piercing their way through the sky every Saturday night from nearby fields and warehouses, James soon discovered that his attention was being drawn away from his eight times table and towards the likes of Prodigy and Underworld.

James' fascination rapidly reached new levels when at the age of 14 he purchased his first set of decks, followed soon after by his first DJ gig in a youth club in his home town. With many gigs at student nights soon to follow, these early steps paved the way for James to nurture his unique sound and gain a greater understanding of how to move a crowd.

Fast forward to the new millennium and James decided to try his hand at production with almost immediate success. His first track 'Eggs Are Cute' was signed by Nu-Republic Records, receiving major support from the planets leading DJs including James Zabiela and Sasha. Tracks packed with similar acid riffs and killer b-lines were soon to follow with three of them being instantly signed to Saved Records, following a chance meeting with label boss Nic Fanciulli. The first 'Love That Acid', reached no 10 in the UK Buzz Charts, whilst the other two 'House Rhythm' and 'Get Down', both received critical acclaim from all sides of the dance music press, with the latter appearing on Nic's Renaissance mix compilation. Further praise was given to James in a major interview when Fanciulli uttered just three words when asked who the next big thing in dance music was; "James Talk ' Amazing."

James has continued to work alongside individuals who have helped him advance musically by completing reworks for the likes of Buick Project, Audio Magnetics and Danny Howells, whilst a three track EP, under his Ri-Tek alias, has been signed to Phil Docherty's Pravo Recordings and gained support from the likes of John Digweed, Steve Lawler and King Unique. Recently James has been working with none other than Pete Tong in the studio, with the duo recently completing a remix of Wally Lopez for Pacha Records.

Such productions have also resulted in James' DJ diary fill up rapidly, only furthered by a superb guest mix on John Digweed's Kiss 100 show in February 2005. He has now played all over the UK and beyond alongside luminaries such as Nic Fanciulli, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela and Desyn Masiello and looks forward to upcoming gigs at Godskitchen, Renaissance, Fandango at Turnmills and New Years Eve for High Tide. James will finalise what has been a fantastic year by mixing the next CD in the Thinking Out Loud series, due for release at the end of 2005.
